Preview: Progress continues for rookie Cup driver Buescher at Vegas

Chris Buescher in Daytona

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, and the driver of the #34 Love's Ford Fusion is hoping that what happens is a trip to Victory Lane at the Kobalt Tools 400 on Sunday.

Chris Buescher opened the NASCAR season with a 39th place finish at the Daytona 500 after a crash with Matt DiBenedetto during Lap 92 of the Great American Race. But Buescher says that he and the team at Front Row Motorsports are making progress every week.

"“We're definitely in a learning stage right now with the new downforce package and me going to some tracks that I've never run a Cup car on. But we're making progress each week and will continue to do so. Our Love's Travel Stops Ford Fusion took a really hard hit at Daytona, so we definitely want a better finish for Love's this week in Vegas," Buescher said.

And Vegas will be all business for the rookie Cup driver.

“You won’t find me spending a ton of time in the casinos in Vegas. I’m a 'high-stakes' gambler. I take $20 with me. I’m willing to lose that 20 bucks, and that’s about it," he joked.

Qualifying for the Kobalt Tools 400 will happen on Friday night at 7:30 on FOX Sports 1. The race can be seen on FOX at 3:30 p.m. ET on Sunday.
